FileMaker Pro BoxIndependent reviewers, too, like FileMaker Pro

FileMaker Pro won two of the software industry's highest honors at the Software Publishers Association 1998 Excellence in Software Awards.

The SPA voted FileMaker Pro Best Business Software and Best Numeric or Data Business Software.

In winning the prestigious Best Business Software Codie Award, FileMaker Pro defeated Microsoft Excel 97, Microsoft FrontPage 98, Microsoft Word 97 and two other nominees. FileMaker Pro also defeated a competing database program, Microsoft Access 97, in winning the Best Numeric or Data Business Software Codie Award.

FileMaker Pro 4 has been selected Software Pick by Success Magazine (circulation: 500,000) in its May 1998 issue.

The story points out that the "popular database application has gained some attractive new features, including one that allows you to convert an existing database into HTML and publish it on your Web site."

FileMaker Pro 4 gets a "Boot Rating of 8" in a recent issue of boot magazine.

In addition to receiving a favorable rating, the review points out that the magazine itself uses FMP 4 on its site as the main database search engine.

Here's a quote from the review:

"Simply put, FileMaker Pro 4.0 is worth its weight in gold and is definitely BootWorthy."

Searcher: The Magazine for Database Professionals has chosen FileMaker Pro 4.0 as its Best Buy Pick for Database Management System Software.

The March 1998 issue of MacHome Journal gives FileMaker 4 a perfect five along with the editor's "MACnificent" award.

A highlight from the review:

"FileMaker Pro 4 is a significant upgrade for anyone interested in publishing a database to the Web or an intranet....despite its sophistication, the program remains well within the grasp of most novice users."

FileMakerNewMedia magazine (circulation 215,000) has bestowed the 1998 Hyper Award on FileMaker Pro 4.0 in the category of Web Databases. The magazine will feature FileMaker Pro in its upcoming March 3 Hyper Awards issue of NewMedia. The award honors products that embody the highest level of innovation, technical excellence and customer value.

This award qualifies FileMaker Pro 4 to be considered as product of the Year by the magazine in its March edition.

FileMaker Pro 4.0 is the darling of MacWorld magazine (circulation 640,000) in the February 1998 issue. But the big news is that the editors of the magazine picked FileMaker Pro 4 as its choice for Best Business Productivity Software for 1997 in this year's Eddy Awards held during MacWorld Expo/San Francisco.

The February review provides a glowing review of FileMaker Pro 4.0.

Here are a few lines from the review:

"FileMaker Pro 4.0 is a smart update that enhances FileMaker Pro's overall capabilities while adding red-hot Internet features...FileMaker Pro's Instant Web Publishing feature makes basic searching, browsing, and editing a one-click proposition....FileMaker Pro 4.0 is a godsend...."

The result? A 4 1/2 mice rating (out of five ... hardly anything gets a five).

Computer Shopper (circulation 540,542) gives a big thumbs up for FileMaker Pro 4 in its December 1997 issue. Here are a few of its raves:

"... database programs have traditionally tended to belong to one of two extremes ... either very simple, flat file ... or more complex relational apps that require extensive programming expertise ... FileMaker Pro seeks to offer a happy medium."

"... (FMP) is an outstanding price for such a robust program."

"FileMaker Pro did a fine job of importing many non-database style spreadsheets as well as other supported file types ... the conversion process was painless and yielded a reliable working database."

"FileMaker Pro remains a user friendly database program ... you can concentrate on your needs and rely on FileMaker Pro to handle the complex yet mundane data automation and Web publishing aspects of the task."

The Orange County Register (circulation 358.000) also ran a spectacular review of FileMaker Pro giving the product a Grade A rating in its Nov. 2, 1997, issue:

"Why can't the rest of the computer world work like this? The new version of FileMaker Pro delivers ease of use along with a powerful information tool--and works exactly the same way on a Mac or PC .... "

"This latest version is just as easy to use as that venerable ancestor, but it takes a quantum leap forward in capabilities."

The December 1997 issue of Income Opportunities (circulation 350,000) annual reader's choice awards for "Best software for your business" turns up some interesting statistics worth noting!

In the database/filing category, FileMaker Pro, has a higher percentage of users who would recommend the product to others (85 percent) over Microsoft Access (66.9 percent).

In fact, FileMaker received the highest "would recommend it to others" rating over all other databases, including MS Access, Paradox, Symantec Act, Approach, and Goldmine.

The editors of Mac Today magazine, gave FileMaker Pro its Editor's Choice Award for Best Data Management product for 1998. The award is given by Mac Today editors for products that make using the Macintosh a joy.
