FileMaker Pro is powerful, easy to use ... or both
FileMaker Pro is a wonderful database application that's easy to use and powerful in the right hands.
Our FileMaker resources include:
- OfficeChamp, the ready-to-use database that will increase professionalism and productivity in your office.
- Recap of the latest FileMaker versions -- what's available and what we recommend
- Useful, free files that you can download
- Valuable links to other FileMaker Pro sites
Anyone with basic computer skills can install FileMaker and within hours create and learn to use a database -- entering data, searching, sorting and printing reports. With experience, training and/or the aid of a FileMaker professional, complex relational databases can be created to manage nearly any aspect of an organization.
The best source of FileMaker professionals is the FileMaker Solutions Alliance, a support organization run by Claris.Yes, users on all of these platforms, if networked, can share a single file at the same time.
The inherent advantages of FileMaker are magnified because it will simultaneously run on:
- Windows 95
- Windows NT
- Windows 3.x
- Macintosh
We've created a separate page of independent reviews of FileMaker Pro.
Or, a FileMaker file can be shared over the Internet using TCP/IP. Open the file on an Internet-connected computer and anyone in the world who has FileMaker, the IP address and the password for the file can enter, edit and retrieve data, subject to password restrictions you can apply.
FileMaker is a web server. Internet users can open, browse, search and edit files with a web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.Well, enough hype. This isn't the FileMaker Pro web site. Let FileMaker toot its own horn.
Versions
We recommend that all users should be on the current shipping version of FileMaker, which is 5.0v3.
We typically delay upgrading to new versions -- and we did that with FileMaker 5, as well. But it's now well worth upgrading to stay in the technological mainstream and to take advantage of version 5's features. We are very positive about version 5.5, which is being released in mid-May 2001, but we aren't ready to recommend it for installation.
